Arch Types

Overview: high arch hiking boots

A high arch (the area of the foot that runs between the toes and heel) is raised more than normal and typically causes the foot to roll only slightly on impact. As a consequence body weight is mostly held by the ball and heel of the foot. When less of the foot makes contact with the ground during a stride, shock absorption is limited to a smaller area rather than spread across the entire foot. Unsupported, it can lead to overuse injuries and sprains.
