A low arch is lower to the ground or flatter than typical and will cause the foot and ankle to roll inward. The arch is the section on the base of the foot between the ball and the heel. Runners with a lower arch will hold their body weight closer to the centre of the stance with the most pressure falling on the inner feet as well as the big and second toes. It is generally associated with overpronation and left unsupported can result in shin splints and knee pain.
